  • Base stock selection is also ruled by the application. The common base stocks for hydraulic oil are petroleum-based, water-based and synthetics and the right base stock will be determined based on the kind of environment the equipment operates in.
  • Additives improve the hydraulic fluid’s protection capabilities and some of the common additives include rust and oxidation inhibitors (R&O), anti-corrosion agents, demulsifiers, anti-wear (AW) and extreme pressure (EP) agents, viscosity improvers and defoamants. The right combination of additives can enhance performance and maximise efficiency of the fluid.

Selection of the right hydraulic oil is defined by its operating conditions. It would be ideal if the temperature-viscosity complies with the ISO viscosity rating (cSt at 40ºC and 100ºC).
