What is bearing grease

Bearings are in motion most of the time. Movement at high speed and high loads for prolonged durations means high stress environment and a lot of wear and tear. This is why bearing grease are of high importance for its performance and protection. The best grease for bearings forms a layer between the two rolling parts, preventing metal-to-metal contact and hence reducing the friction that induces wear and tear.

Types of bearing grease

There are mainly two types of bearing lubricants – oil and grease. They are differentiated by their consistency with the oil being more free-flowing than grease. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Oil is easy to apply and easy to change and performs well at high temperature but there are chances of leakage.

Grease on the other hand has low leakage, improves sealing and requires low maintenance but the changing process can be a little tedious.
